BCCT Insight with Amnesty International: Corporate Dinner Panel Discussion

SLAVERY, HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND TORTURE IN SOUTH EAST ASIA’S SCAMMING COMPOUNDS:

From Documenting to Taking Action – what can WE do together?

*All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Amnesty International to support equality and protect human rights around the world.*

Join BCCT and Amnesty International for an evening of dinner and discussion on the growing challenge of scam compounds, exploring their human rights impact, the complexities of tackling these criminal networks, and the risks they pose to businesses and society.

We are increasingly exposed to fraud, cybercrime, financial crime and the misuse of legitimate business infrastructure. This poses significant risks not only to the public at large but also to businesses.

This discussion will explore the impact of scam compounds, the complexities surrounding this issue, their impact on human rights and the risks they pose to businesses. The event will give business leaders and corporate stakeholders the opportunity to better understand these risks and explore how the private sector can help address them.

Hear from Experts Across Different Sectors

The panel will bring together experts from a human rights organization, the financial crime unit of a multinational bank, and a major recruitment service provider to examine the issue from different perspectives:

  • Joe Freeman, Regional Researcher Amnesty International East, Southeast Asia and Pacific Regional Office — exploring the human rights impact of scam compounds .
  • Anak Muthitacharoen, Chief Compliance Officer, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (Thailand) — examining fraud prevention, mule accounts and the role of financial institutions in disrupting scam operations.
  • Bhavana Kumar, Managing Partner, RSM Recruitment (Thailand) Limited — sharing insights into online scams, fake job advertisements and how recruitment is used to lure people into scam operations.

This discussion will be moderated by Jacqueline Yew, Deputy Director, Fundraising of Amnesty International Thailand.

Together, the panel will examine the issue from different perspectives and discuss how businesses, financial institutions, and other stakeholders can work together to help prevent fraud, disrupt criminal networks, and protect vulnerable individuals.

The event will also support Amnesty International’s work in further researching and investigating issues that may threaten the human rights of people like you and me. This may include projects such as investigating scamming compounds in Southeast Asia and the region, as well as raising awareness through Amnesty International Thailand’s human rights education programme.

Join us for an evening of informed discussion, practical perspectives, and collaboration on one of the region’s emerging human rights and security challenges.
