|CHAIR - ANDREW MCBEAN - INDIVIDUAL MEMBER|
I commit to be an active board director on behalf of the membership. Being active to me goes beyond turning up for meetings/networking but rather being active in committees, discussions, webinars (now!) and events, also acting as a conduit to the board of member views and feedback, and driving results through enthusiastic participation. On behalf of our members I work closely with Thailand’s Board of Trade as a Director, Foreign Chamber Association (FCA) with AmCham, AustCham, and GTCC, and also with the Joint Foreign Chambers, JFCCT to promote the interest of our members.
I am a businessman and my main interest was how to stimulate both trade for our BCCT members in Thailand, but also that of UK companies. I have always wanted to see a closer and more active trade between the UK and Thailand and particularly one that benefits BCCT members recognizing that a great many of our members are SMEs. However, now we are in the new normal caused by COVID and now my immediate priorities are working with the staff at the BCCT office, fellow Directors, the Embassy and other British and Thai national interests to see how we can assist our members through this crisis.
In my current role I am presently Director of UiPath in Thailand which is the second fastest growing technology company in the FTSE 1000 with a market cap of $7bn. UiPath are the “magic quadrant” leaders in the space of hyperautomation.
I have been living and working in Thailand for nearly 16 years and I became a Thailand Permanent Resident in 2012. I was previously an active Board member for BCCT for 4 years, chairing the Overseas Business Networking Steering Group comprising members of the BCCT board and embassy UKTI staff and also chair of the BCCT ICT (as it was then) committee. I stepped down from the board about 3 years ago as I was studying for an Open University BSc degree and I did not feel I could commit the necessary time to the Board that it required at that time, a situation which has now changed.

|DIRECTOR - CHRIS THATCHER - Group Chairman, ANGLO-THAI LEGAL CO., LTD.|
I have been a member of the Board since 2010 and have served as both Vice Chairman and Chairman.
I believe firmly that BCCT is an organisation for members and needs to continue and develop its services for members. It seems to be obvious that an organisation for members, should be serving the needs of its members but there are times when the BCCT could be doing a lot more and a lot better.
Most BCCT members are SMEs and their needs are fundamental to the core of what the BCCT should be doing and we need to work to further develop those services. The membership fee is what members pay to access our services and forms the foundation of the finances of the Chamber.
My particular interest and background is in Education - I was a Headteacher in the UK for 20 years – and in that respect there is a lot that we can do. Skills based education is crucial to Thailand’s continuing economic development and the BCCT has assisted large companies such as Pearson (known here for their BTEC qualifications) and City and Guilds (C&G) to gain traction in Thailand.
There are many other aspects of educational development that we can assist with and support. Education is the bedrock of any developing nation – not just for those wealthy enough to access private provision. Our members need access to a well-educated and qualified workforce.
No organisation can afford to stand still and the BCCT is no exception to this. Listening to, and acting upon, our members’ thoughts and comments is essential if we are to stay as a leading Chamber of Commerce in Thailand. As your Chamber you are entitled to that.
